Better ideas. Better outcomes.

Impact Statement 2018

At Spectrum Health Innovations (SHI), we imagine what the future of health care might look like. We examine the problems of today to make health care better for tomorrow. In this 2018 annual impact statement, we tell the stories of a few of our achievements.

We invite you to take a moment to read about Carol, a solution to a problem millions of families face: keeping loved ones home as long as possible and doing so safely.

Read about an external urinary device, or EUD, a urinary collection device designed specifically for women, as an alternative to the catheter.

Our patient auto slider device is a simple and effective solution to a complex problem that affects both employees and patients.

A new locking specimen drop box, based on an idea from a Spectrum Health lab manager, was created to hold several lab specimens at a time to protect patient privacy.

The excitement at Spectrum Health Innovations was palpable when we received a three-year grant from the City of Grand Rapids’ SmartZoneSM Local Development Finance Authority to support the development of new health care solutions.

And we want to introduce you to Alissa Smith, a graduate student in biomedical engineering at Grand Valley State University, who has been an intern with SHI since May 2017.

Finally, read about our community outreach initiatives.

Spectrum Health thrives through its relationship with our community, beginning with our patients and their families; with local businesses, universities, and civic and government organizations across the region; and with the people who work alongside us within the system. We work with you and for you—and we invite you to join us on this journey by sharing these stories.
